The City of Arlington earned a top 10 spot in SmartAsset’s “Best Cities to Buy an Affordable Home” list for 2020.

The City of Arlington earned a top 10 spot in SmartAsset’s “Best Cities to Buy an Affordable Home” list for 2020.

In its study, SmartAsset looked at 100 of the largest U.S. cities across seven metrics to identify some of the best cities to buy an affordable family home. Those metrics included the percentage of homes with at least two bedrooms, the five-year change in homeownership rate, two affordability metrics and three livability statistics.

SmartAsset ranked Arlington the second-best in its top 10 and 15th best overall for its down payment-to-income ratio. That means a 20% down payment on the median valued home in Arlington makes up only 60% of the median household income. The American Dream City also ranked in the top 15 for housing costs as a percentage of income (21.93%) and high school graduation rate (90.50%).

More than a third of cities that ranked in SmartAsset’s top 25 list are located in Texas.
