The recent completion of updates to two sanitary sewer lift stations in West Arlington – the Tiffany Park Sanitary Sewer Lift Station and the Feather Beach Sanitary Sewer Lift Station - will strengthen the City’s sanitary sewer collection infrastructure, improving service and reliability.

Sanitary sewer lift stations are locations where the city’s sanitary sewer flow is aided by an electric pump. Arlington Water Utilities is responsible for the operation and maintenance of more than 1,200 miles of sanitary sewer mains and three sanitary sewer lift stations. The Tiffany Park and Feather Beach sanitary sewer lift stations were identified as needing rehabilitation or replacement due to age and poor condition caused by chemical corrosion as a result of sewer gases being released in the lift station.

After studying available options, Arlington Water Utilities decided to rehabilitate sanitary sewer lift stations to extend their useful lives.

The recently completed project included the replacement of piping in the lift stations and repairing of pump station walls that have been corroded by long-term contact with sanitary sewer system gases. Additionally, any corroded manholes were also repaired, or if needed, completely replaced.

Both of the projects were started during fall 2019. Arlington’s City Council approved spending nearly $1 million on the improvements in 2019.

These improvements will extend the life of the public facilities, reduce maintenance costs, and improve servicing the stations in the future.
