Your Money in Action

Does your commute take you down Center or Mesquite streets in north Arlington? Crews will be working through mid-July on repairs that will make your drive smoother and extend the useful life roadway.

The work to replace failed sections of concrete panels between Randol Mill Road and Road to Six Flags Drive is one of the five street maintenance programs funded by the voter-approved Street Maintenance Sales Tax. Crews will focus their work on the north bound lanes first and then move to the southbound lanes. Work in the area is expected to continue through mid-July.

The panel replacement program specifically targets major thoroughfares and collector streets. Since October of 2019, more than 36,500 square yards of panels have been replaced throughout the city. Work was recently completed on Davis Drive, between Lamar and Green Oaks boulevards, that replaced more than 6,500 square yards of concrete panels. Additionally, concrete panel replacement on Matlock Road, between the south Interstate 20 Frontage Road to Sublett Road, is ongoing. Since work began on Matlock Road earlier this year, more than 14,100 square yards of failed concrete panels have been replaced. Work in this area is expected to be completed this fall.

The City uses an annual pavement survey program to inventory the condition of all streets within the city limits. The condition of each street segment is reported as an Overall Condition Index (OCI) Rating between 0-100 based on the “ride” and “distress” of the segment. Roads with a rating lower than 50 are called “red streets” and recommended for inclusion in the department’s Capital Improvement Program. Roads with a rating between 50 and 70 are called “yellow” streets and are included in the City’s Street Maintenance Program.
