A special edition of Ask Arlington on MyArlingtonTV answers some of the questions we’re seeing from residents on social media related to the City’s response to the respiratory disease, COVID-19.

The latest episode features Dr. Cynthia Simmons, the City’s Public Health Authority, Arlington Fire Chief Don Crowson and Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams.

Earlier this week, the Arlington City Council voted to extend the local declaration of disaster to April 30, 2020 to align with Governor Greg Abbott’s recent actions. This order restricts how people work, travel and gather in public as part of the fight against COVID-19.

Residents are still permitted to engage in outdoor activity, provided that individuals comply with social distancing requirements of six feet. The City of Arlington and Tarrant County Public Health remind everyone to continue to follow basic preventive measures to protect from COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses. These include:

• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Stay home when you are sick. If you have trouble breathing or a persistent fever, call your primary care provider for instructions.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your sleeve.
• Frequently clean and disinfect touched objects and surfaces.

The City is also urging all residents to support small businesses and local restaurants during this time.
