Arlington Parks and Recreation appreciates your loyalty and trust. As concerns about coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to grip our nation, our highest priority is the health and well-being of our visitors and employees.

Arlington Parks and Recreation supports the power of parks and open spaces as essential resources for health and wellness. We understand that people may have questions and concerns about visiting local parks, trails or open spaces at this time.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has flagged mental health as a top concern associated with the COVID-19 outbreak. We recognize that social distancing may take a toll on our mental health, especially during high-stress and anxiety-producing global public health emergencies. We also know that parks provide a connection to the outdoors and green space as well as opportunities for physical activity which studies demonstrate reduces stress and improves mental health.

We believe that many parks, trails and open spaces can continue to be used in a safe manner that allows people to enjoy the mental and physical health benefits these spaces provide. In all instances, we recommend visitors follow local, state and national ordinances and guidelines regarding the use of these spaces and recognize that these vary from community to community.

Arlington Parks are open for play! Outdoor spaces are well suited to increase social distancing, but we still must remain diligent in taking steps to make your visit as safe and enjoyable as possible.

Here’s how you can help:

  • Refrain from using parks or trails if you or someone in your household are exhibiting symptoms.
  • Follow CDC’s guidance on personal hygiene prior to, during, and after use of parks or trails.
  • Pack disinfecting wipes and hand sanitizer!
  • Be aware that park public restrooms and water fountains are temporarily closed.
  • While on trails, warn other visitors of your presence as you pass as well as step aside and let others pass.
  • Follow CDC guidance on the recommended size of social gatherings including picnicking, pick-up sports and other group hangouts, and maintain proper physical distance at all times.
  • Observe CDC’s minimum recommended social distancing of 6 feet from other individuals at all times. If this is not possible, visitors should find an alternate location or park. Visit our park finder for help.
  • Consult https://www.arlingtontx.gov/coronavirus, local and state ordinances and guidelines for the most up-to-date recommendations on park and trail use.

Here are a few ways to safely enjoy our parks while social distancing:

  • Picnic lunch under a vacant tree, pavilion, or in a field.
  • Chalk time, let your imagination soar along our park pathways.
  • Storytime in the park, read a book on a blanket or bring foldable chairs.
  • Scavenger hunt or i-spy during a nature walk.
  • Fly a kite, teach your kids how to ride a bike, play hopscotch...be creative!

Here’s what we are doing:

We are implementing additional cleaning procedures, as well as increasing the frequency and intensity of our park cleanings of play structures and restrooms along with other public areas.

We are monitoring the situation. We promise to remain diligent and intentional in protecting you and making your visit a great experience.
