Coronavirus Update

Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed an executive order Thursday designed to slow the spread of the new coronavirus COVID-19.

The order takes effect Friday, March 20 and runs through 11:59 p.m. April 3, 2020. It is based on orders and recommendations from President Trump and the Centers for Disease Control.

Under the order:

  • No more than 10 people are allowed at social gatherings.
  • Restaurant dining rooms must close. Texans are encouraged to utilize drive-thru windows, carry-out options and delivery services. (This order aligns with Arlington City Council members’ decision Wednesday.)
  • Gyms must close.
  • Visitors will not be allowed in nursing homes, retirement facilities or long-term care centers unless they are there to provide critical assistance.
  • Schools will remain closed. District superintendents should work with the Texas Education Agency to continue online or additional educational options.
