Arlington receives Petco Foundation check for $35,000

The Petco Foundation did more than just spread love this February. The nonprofit delivered it in person Monday in the form of an oversized check.

The foundation has been raising money in Petco stores to fund its grants program. Arlington Animal Services applied for one of the grants to benefit the city's cat population.

A team from Arlington Animal Services was invited to a Petco event Monday where they were surprised with the news they'd been selected to receive $35,000. District 2 Council Member Sheri Capehart, who has been a strong advocate for animals during her tenure on City Council, was in attendance for the presentation as well.

"Arlington is the American Dream City, and we took the opportunity to dream with this grant. And our dream came true," said Arlington Animal Services Manager Chris Huff. "With this money, we'll be able to spay and neuter 600 domestic and feral cats."

The check also came with toys and treats for Arlington's dog and cat population plus 100 pairs of shoes, donated by BOB's from Skechers.
