Does your teenager have the next great song in them, just waiting to be recorded? Or are they interested in learning how music is made? If so, head to the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library for free recording sessions.

Students will meet one-on-one with community volunteers to watch the process from start to finish. The volunteers will also help participants craft original music. Organizers say the goal is to provide a judgement-free zone where teens can find their voice and gain a better understanding of who they are.

The Arlington Music and Recording Program will run every Tuesday through May 26, 2020. Interested teens can sign up for slots beginning at 5 p.m. Sessions will last 15 minutes if there is a wait or 30 minutes if time allows. Ending times will be flexible and depend on the number of participants.

Both a microphone and laptop with recording software will be available. While they wait, teens are always welcome to partake in the library's Teen Time, where they can play video games or board games, participate in an arts and crafts activity or use a reserved study room.
