Arlington Ranks Among Most Fiscally-Sound Cities

A new report ranks Arlington among the most fiscally sound cities in the United States. The nonprofit Truth in Accounting looked at financial records from the country's 75 largest cities before making its rankings.

The American Dream City ranks ninth on the list and is one of just twelve cities with a taxpayer surplus. The rare designation means the city has more than enough money to pay its bills.

The ranking was based on records from fiscal year 2018. According to the report, Arlington has a taxpayer surplus of $2,100. That is the amount that would be left over, per taxpayer, after all the city's bills are paid. That earned Arlington a "B" rating, which is the highest grade awarded to any city in the latest report.

The experts at Truth in Accounting praise Arlington for funding employees' retirement benefits while also staying on top of current bills. "This means that Arlington’s elected officials have truly balanced their budgets," the report states.

The ranking follows WalletHub naming Arlington the best-run city in Texas in both 2018 and 2019, commending the city for both high-quality services and smart budgeting.
