The Public Works and Transportation Department’s Stormwater Division is hosting a public meeting to inform residents of the planned creek erosion improvements near Washington and Franklin drives in north Arlington. The meeting will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2020, in the Northeast Branch Library’s Community Room. The library is located at 1905 Brown Boulevard.

There will be a short presentation starting at 6 p.m. detailing the scope of the project, followed by an opportunity to ask questions. Infrastructure improvements planned under this project include the following:

• Clearing of vegetation and debris necessary for creek access, grading activities, and wall construction
• Replacement of selected retaining walls
• Construction of natural and bioengineered stream stabilization materials designed to protect against future creek erosion
• Adjustment of streambank slope to tie into existing yard elevations
• Vegetation placed in all disturbed areas, including over 80 Texas native trees along with various grasses and shrubs

This project is part of a creek erosion pilot program approved by the Arlington City Council in 2017 aimed at addressing erosion issues in the city’s watersheds. This location was selected for inclusion in the pilot program because it is representative of many erosion related concerns the program plans to address.

Since 2009, the City has invested nearly $12 million in erosion mitigation and streambank stabilization projects to protect City infrastructure. Residents interested in learning more about the City’s stormwater management initiatives can click here for additional information.
