Major Crash Resulting in Multiple Fatalities

The Arlington Police Department responded to a major crash in the 4300 block of Matlock Road on Thursday, January 30, 2020 around 7:22 p.m. Officers arrived on scene and located four vehicles involved in the crash. Based upon witness accounts and surveillance footage from a nearby business, investigators believe a passenger car was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Matlock. This vehicle struck a motorist who was traveling northbound which caused a major crash involving two additional cars for a total of four vehicles involved in the collision.

The driver of the southbound vehicle which caused the crash was pronounced deceased at the scene. Two occupants were transported from a second vehicle to a local hospital. One of those occupants were pronounced deceased at the hospital. The other occupant is being treated for serious injuries. The drivers of the other two vehicles were treated at the scene with minor injuries. 

The northbound lanes of Matlock from Stevens to the I.H. 20 service road will remain closed for several hours for scene investigation. Motorists travelling northbound will be directed eastbound on Stevens to Center Street. The cause of the crash and reason why the initial vehicle was traveling the wrong way on the road continues to remain under investigation. 

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the deceased once next of kin have been identified.
