Arlington residents and visitors will unite to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and advance his vision during a four-day celebration, Jan. 17-20, 2020. This year's theme is "Diversity in Action."

MLK Committee Chair Lisa Thompson appeared on the latest edition of Ask Arlington to discuss this year's events.

"It's our opportunity for our youth and our citizens to think about how we as a dream city here in Arlington are actually activating and putting into action our diversity," Thompson.

The theme was also the prompt for this year's essay and art contests, featuring submissions from Arlington students.

The four-day celebration includes an awards banquet Friday, Jan. 17 with keynote speaker Dr. Yusef Salaam. Salaam was part of the "Central Park Five" and had his assault and rape convictions overturned after being exonerated by DNA evidence. Tickets are $65 and available by clicking here.

Saturday events include a step show and a jazz-meets-poetry event. Sunday, First Baptist Arlington will host an ecumenical service.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 20, will be a day of service in The American Dream City. Anyone interested in volunteering can meet at Mission Arlington (210 W. South Street) at 9 a.m. You can register ahead of time by clicking here. The first 500 volunteers to sign up online will receive a free t-shirt.

Monday also includes a Day of Service Festival and Youth Musical Extravaganza.
