Beginning in November, the Public Works and Transportation’s Field Operations division will begin taking requests from the public for improved median nose markings.

To increase roadway safety, the Public Works and Transportation department will be reinstating its median nose marking program. In the late ‘90s the department began striping the pavement adjacent to median noses to make them more visible to drivers. This request-driven program remained in place until budget shortfalls occurring in the early ‘00s forced its elimination.

Beginning in November, the Public Works and Transportation’s Field Operations division will begin taking requests from the public for improved median nose markings. Once submitted, traffic engineers will review requests and determine the need for enhanced markings based on the following factors:

• Is the median the responsibility of the City or the Texas Department of Transportation?
• Is the median well-lit for nighttime visibility?
• How visible is the median during inclement weather?
• Are there tire marks on the median?
• What is the accident history of the intersection, especially at nighttime?
• What is the geometric design of the intersection; standard or irregular?

Residents may submit requests by calling 817-459-6777 or submitting an Ask Arlington online service request.
