Petmate pledged a generous donation of over $1,000 towards the planned K9 memorial monument from contributions received at the “National Fetch Day” event hosted by Petmate and held at Rush Creek Park on Saturday, Oct. 19.

Service K9s, whether working to protect our nation through special Armed Forces or on the local level, are hailed as fearless servants protecting our country and its people. Plans are to honor these brave and dedicated furry comrades with a bronze K9 Memorial Monument in The American Dream City.

Petmate pledged a generous donation of over $1,000 towards the planned K9 memorial monument from contributions received at the “National Fetch Day” event hosted by Petmate and held at Rush Creek Park on Saturday, Oct. 19. The special day was a family, pet-friendly celebration. Arlington Fire Department K9 Kiara attended the festivities with her handler Jonathan Hogan, Arlington fire prevention specialist.

“We value our K9 partners and respect their sacrifices to keep our citizens safe,” said Roman Alcantar, a specialist with Arlington Fire Department. “This monument is a way to show our appreciation for the hard work and sacrifice the canines provide to keep our community safe.”

Chad Siegert, Petmate’s director of consumer marketing, worked with his team to raise funding for the monument at Fetch Day, and he and his team personally delivered the check to Arlington Animal Services on Tuesday, Oct. 29.

Petmate is described as a company built by people who love animals and all things about animals. It is an Arlington-based company known for its pet loving employees and eco-friendly, award-winning manufacturing techniques.

“Animals make a difference in the lives of people in so many ways and canines serving the community help citizens to feel safe,” Animal Services Manager Chris Huff said. “What a great example of kindness from Petmate helping raise money, and donating toys to the shelter animals, bringing happiness.”

To date, more than $32,000 in private donations have been made towards the bronze monument to honor retired and deceased police and fire service dogs, which is expected to cost $100,000 to create.
