Dr. Moody Alexander graduated with a pre-dental degree but took time off after undergraduate school, thinking his life would take a different turn. He became a campus pastor and soon realized orthodontic work could also be a life of service.

"I saw that my real calling was to come be an orthodontist in my hometown," Dr. Alexander said. But his work extends far beyond Arlington.

Dr. Alexander his wife started Ethiopia Smile, which provides dental care to children in Africa. Over the years, hundreds of dental workers and everyday Arlington residents have joined the Alexanders in their mission to serve.

It was during their time in Africa, Dr. Alexander says, God opened his family's hearts to adoption. He and his wife have now blended their family with children adopted from Ethiopia.

Dr. Alexander was recently named Humanitarian of the Year by the American Association of Orthodontics.

He says his roots in Arlington make the global mission possible.

"The American dream to me is a community of faith, a community of love and kindness and a community that wants to better each other," Dr. Alexander said.
