In recognition of their outstanding performances, four Mansfield ISD band ensembles received the 2019 Mark of Excellence from The Foundation for Music Education.

The Mark of Excellence is a competition in which high school and middle school bands, choirs and orchestras from all across the country submit their best recording from the spring. The music is then judged and ranked by nationally renowned adjudicators.

The top 25 percent of entrants receive the designation of National Winner. Those chosen in the second quarter are named Commended Winners.

Congratulations to the following MISD ensembles and band directors:

  • The T.A. Howard Middle School Honor Band, directed by Nathaniel Neugent, was selected as a National Winner.
  • The Lake Ridge High School Wind Symphony, directed by Brad Bonebrake, was selected as a National Winner. The group also won in the Class 6A and New Music divisions.
  • The Summit High School Wind Symphony, directed by Chris Kanicki, was selected as a National Winner.
  • The Danny Jones Middle School Wind Ensemble, directed by Eric Bolden, was selected as a Commended Winner.

The winners will be recognized in publications and at regional and national conventions. All of the groups will receive trophies, comments from the adjudicators and a compilation recording of the National Winners.

This year, 320 musical ensembles from 38 states entered the competition. Learn more about the Mark of Excellence Project here.
