The PGA TOUR’s Korn Ferry Tour announced today a partnership with Veritex Community Bank to bring a new tournament to the Tour’s annual schedule starting in 2020. The Veritex Bank Championship will be contested at Texas Rangers Golf Club the week of April 13-19, with 156 players competing for a $600,000 purse. A five-year agreement is in place through 2024.

The announcement was made via a press conference this afternoon at Globe Life Park in conjunction with the Texas Rangers and the City of Arlington.

“The greater Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex has a long and successful history with PGA TOUR golf, and we are thrilled to bring the excitement of the Korn Ferry Tour to an emerging sports market like Arlington,” said Korn Ferry Tour President Alex Baldwin. “Our hope is to create an event that engages the business community while providing fans a chance to get up close to the TOUR’s next generation of stars.”

Dallas-based Veritex Community Bank specializes in business banking, commercial loans, small business lending, treasury management and mortgages, with over 40 banking centers in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, the greater Houston area, Louisville, Kentucky, and surrounding areas.

“We are incredibly excited to partner with the PGA Tour’s Korn Ferry Tour and our Dallas community to bring this premiere event to DFW. Our market deserves such an event and we are humbled to be a part of it”, said Veritex Bank CEO, Malcolm Holland.

The Texas Rangers Golf Club opened earlier this year following a $24 million overhaul of the Chester W. Ditto Golf Course, with Arlington-based architects John Colligan and Trey Kemp leading the renovation. The only Major League Baseball-branded golf course is owned and operated by the City of Arlington and will introduce a new 33,000-square-foot clubhouse in 2020.

“From back-to-back World Series appearances by the Texas Rangers in 2010 and 2011, Super Bowl XLV (45) earlier that year, and the inaugural College Football Playoff National Championship in 2015, Arlington is no stranger to hosting some of the biggest events in sports,” said Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams. “We are thrilled to welcome some of the world’s top golfers to Arlington and look forward to seeing who will etch their name in Arlington’s storied sports record book.”

The tournament will be managed by Dallas-based Anera Sports, LLC, and CEO Rob Addington, who was the executive director of the Texas Golf Association and Foundation from 2001 through 2018. The Anera Sports team has managed over 100 collegiate events and 1,500 amateur championships, including qualifiers for national championships and operations of international events.

“Texas Rangers Golf Club is thrilled to serve as the host venue of the Veritex Bank Championship,” said City of Arlington Golf Services Manager Greg Durante. “Feedback on the course by many of the professional golfers that reside in the DFW area has been very positive, and we look forward to welcoming the entire Korn Ferry Tour field to Arlington next April.

With 50 available PGA TOUR cards for the following season (since 2013), the Korn Ferry Tour is the path to the PGA TOUR. Twenty-five TOUR cards are reserved for the leading points earners at the end of the 24-event Regular Season. Another 25 are up for grabs at the three-event Korn Ferry Tour Finals that follow the Regular Season in August and September.

During the PGA TOUR’s 2018-19 season, five players from the Korn Ferry Tour’s Class of 2018 won titles, including Cameron Champ (Sanderson Farms Championship), Adam Long (The Desert Classic), Martin Trainer (Puerto Rico Open), Max Homa (Wells Fargo Championship) and Dylan Frittelli (John Deere Classic).

Other notable PGA TOUR players who got their start on the Korn Ferry Tour include major champions Justin Thomas, Jason Day, Bubba Watson and Zach Johnson.
