Readers, writers and book lovers are invited to a variety of writing and author events this fall with the Arlington Public Library! Celebrate your love of the written word and meet other people with similar interests. From book clubs to writing workshops to visiting authors, there is something for every literary taste.
Author Visits
PTSD and the First Responder, Saturday, Sept. 28, 2-4 p.m., Downtown Library
Join special guests John Salerno and Samantha Horwitz for an informative afternoon of discovering the world of PTSD and its effects on the first responder's community. John Salerno is a retired NYPD officer and Samantha Horwitz is a former Secret Service agent. She was in the towers on 9/11 and is the author of The Silent Fall: A Secret Service Agent's Story of Tragedy and Triumph After 9/11.
Barbecuing Dragons with author Roger Broom, Tuesday, Oct. 15, 6:30-8 p.m., Southeast Branch
Join local author Roger Broom as he discusses his newest book Barbecuing Dragons: a mystery novel of Fort Worth Texas. He is also the author of Scorned Vulgate: A Texas Mystery and Messin' With Medusa: A Modern Fort Worth, Texas Crime Novel.
An Evening with Mary McDonough, Thursday, Oct. 3, 7-8 p.m., Downtown Library
Best known for her portrayal of Erin on TV classic The Waltons, McDonough gives readers an intimate look behind the scenes of one of the most beloved shows of all time, and reveals an inspiring story of challenges and personal triumph. Mary’s book, Lessons from the Mountain, shares her story of growing up as a child star and how she reinvented herself after the show’s long run.
Book and Author Luncheon, Thursday, October 10, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Shady Valley County Club
Join the Friends and Foundation of the Arlington Public Library for an elegant, ticketed luncheon highlighting local authors. This season’s luncheon features Ron Tyler, former director of the Amon Carter Museum and author of The Art of Texas, and Brigitte Gawenda Kimichik, co-author of Play Nice: Playground Rules for Respect in the Workplace. Book Clubs
The Arlington Public Library currently offers six book clubs for patrons who love to read! These discussion groups cover a wide variety of literary tastes, from romances and mysteries to popular bestselling novels and business titles. Writing Workshops
The Write Stuff is a series of workshops appealing to aspiring novelists and casual writing enthusiasts alike. Led by local authors and instructors, each session will explore different writing ideas. All sessions meet from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Downtown Library.

At this public venue, like-minded writers may bring their work for input from fellow writers and, in turn, return the favor to their peers. These read-and-critique sessions are facilitated by Alex Galceran with the occasional experienced guest.
Write In, every Wednesday in November, 6-7:30 p.m., Woodland West Branch
Grab your favorite writing tools and join fellow writers for an evening getting out the words. We will meet every week during National Novel Writing Month, which takes place every November.
