Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County offers a variety of valuable services, including one of the largest job fairs of its kind in Texas, to help veterans and active service members find work and connect with training, educational opportunities and other resources designed to help them succeed.

Last year, approximately 10 percent of the 41,829 job seekers who found employment through Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County were veterans.

Workforce Solutions has representatives who are specially trained to help our local veterans access job placement services, job search resources, training programs, resume and application assistance and career development assistance. Workforce Solutions’ Statewide Job Matching system, WorkInTexas, is available to clients 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This system is designed to offer veterans priority access and targeted jobs just for them.

Ways that Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County serves veterans include:

Events/Programs

• The annual Hiring Red, White & You! Hiring Fair, which is set for Nov. 7, 2019, at Globe Life Park in Arlington. Hiring Red, White & You! connects Texas veterans and their spouses with Texas employers who value the experience, discipline and other exceptional qualities inherent with a military background. More than 147 employers (including area veteran resource agencies) and more than 1,013 job seekers took part in the center’s 2018 job fair event in Arlington.

• The Texas Veterans Leadership Program is a Texas Workforce Commission resource and referral network connecting returning veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan with the resources and tools they need to lead productive lives and enjoy the full benefits of the society they have willingly served.

• The Skills for Transition Program assists military service members who are preparing to separate from service within 180 days or who have been discharged within 180 days and will remain in Texas.

• "We Hire Vets" is an employer recognition program that recognizes Texas employers for their commitment to hiring veterans. Employers whose workforce is composed of at least 10 percent military veterans are eligible to receive a “We Hire Vets” employer recognition decal to display on their storefront. Eligible employers will have an electronic decal to display on their website.

Collaborations

• Workforce Solutions has worked with the University of Texas at Arlington to design Recruiting and Retaining Top Talent, a five-module training course for Human Resources and front-line supervisors. This curriculum was designed to help companies better understand and respond to Veteran HR issues, including PTSD. Companies host other companies to attend and learn more about working with Veterans.

• Workforce Solutions works directly with the Fort Worth Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base, sharing new initiatives and information to help those returning vets find jobs, training, and other resources.

• Through Texas Operation Welcome Home, the Texas Workforce Commission and Texas Workforce Solutions network partner to assist recently separated service members who are experiencing challenges in translating their military skills into civilian terms and locating employment. The program also assists service members to complete two-year or four-year college programs or obtaining the appropriate licensure or certifications needed to compete in the job market.
