Effective Thursday, Aug. 1, 2019, the Arlington Public Library will no longer charge reshelving fees.

Request as many library books as you want, with no fees! Effective Thursday, Aug. 1, 2019, the Arlington Public Library will no longer charge reshelving fees.

The reshelving fee was implemented in 2013, when patrons were charged $.25 for items that they requested but did not pick up. The Arlington Public Library hoped that the fee would encourage patrons to pick up their holds on time, but found that the fees caused frustration instead. After listening to patron feedback, the Library has decided to do away with the reshelving fee.

The hold period will stay the same length. Requested items will be available to be picked up for four days. After Aug.1, any requested item that isn’t picked up on time will still be reshelved or sent to the next patron waiting for it. The reshelving fee will simply not be charged.

This change is not retroactive, so any reshelving fees posted before Aug. 1 will remain on patrons' account balances. If you have any questions, please contact your local branch manager or click here to contact the Library.
