Market in Arlington Opens

Aromas of sizzling brats and sounds of local music will fill the air yet again at the fifth annual Texas Christkindl Market in the American Dream City. This year, it's going to be even bigger than ever.

The annual market will bring German holiday traditions to Arlington starting this Friday, November 27 through December 23, 2015 at Globe Life Park with new additions to the family fun.

This year, a Kinder Market for children, to be open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, is being added to the Texas Christkindl Market. The Kinder Market will include storytelling, carousel rides, pony rides, a snow playground and snow throw, a gingerbread house decorating workshop, and a puppet show, "Northpole Texas" on the Marionette Stage.

The Texas Christkindl Market will also feature a number of vendors, selling handmade goods, decor and ornaments, as well as German food and drinks, such as funnel cakes, potato pancakes, gluhwein, strudel, and even Fletcher's Corny Dogs. Entertainment from local school choirs, dance groups, and Texas songwriters will also be part of the family fun.

You can also watch MyArlingtonTV's "Ask Arlington" episode featuring Barbara Kovacevich, director of special events for the Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau, to answer your questions about the market.

Arlington's Texas Christkindl Market has become of the largest open-air holiday markets in the Southwest and was originally inspired by Arlington's relationship with its German sister city, Bad Königshofen. The market changed management this year, and is now produced by the Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau and City of Arlington in partnership with the Texas Rangers, Six Flags Over Texas and Arlington Chamber of Commerce.

Decima Cooper Mullen, Arlington CVB's Senior Director of Marketing & Public Relations, says this event is the perfect way for families to celebrate the holiday season in The American Dream City.

"Our focus is on creating the feeling and excitement of the holiday season through the activities, great food, decorations, sights and sounds," Cooper Mullen said.

"We've also added a magical Kinder Market geared towards the little ones, with real snow playing, gingerbread decorating and a carousel. Come out and join us!"

The Texas Christkindl Market will run Nov. 27-Dec 23., and will be open 12-9 p.m. Sunday-Friday and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays. Hours on opening day, November 27, are 5-9 p.m. The opening ceremonies will kick off at 6 p.m. with the lighting of the Christmas tree.

The market is adjacent to Globe Life Park, Road to Six Flags, and Nolan Ryan Expressway. Admission and parking are free, but various activities, including many in the Kinder Market, are for an additional charge.
