Every young child has answered the question "what do you want to be when you grow up?" at some point in his or her life. In the spirit of keeping those dreams of future careers alive and growing, the Arlington Public Library will help tween-age students answer that question yet again in the Let's Be ... program series this spring.
Beginning February 11, the library will present four, one-hour programs exclusively for tweens ages 9-12 that introduces them to professionals working in STEAM-related jobs (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math). The roster of presenters includes an engineer, a carpenter, a broadcaster, and a photographer, all of whom work in Arlington.
"I think it's important for tween-age kids to dream about what they want to be," programming librarian Morgan Brickey said. "They are learning STEAM-related skills in school right now that can be applied to future careers, and I want them to see professionals that use those concepts in their everyday lives."
The first session of the Let's Be ... series will feature Miguel Picart, a teacher and sponsor of the Engineering Club at Arlington High School. The program will take place at the Southwest Branch Library on Thursday, February 11, from 5-6 p.m. Additionally programs will be held on March 10, April 14, and May 12.
