Arlington's world-class Entertainment District is now even more electrifying.
The city is home to Tesla's first urban Supercharger station in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The station, which opened recently at the Arlington Convention Center, has 10 Superchargers available to the public 24 hours a day.
The station, built by the City in partnership with Tesla, is one of the latest examples of Arlington's commitment to remaining at the forefront of innovative transportation technology. Situated in the Convention Center parking lot across from Globe Life Park, the station is conveniently located off Interstate 30 to serve citizens as well as visitors to Arlington's Entertainment District.
The Tesla Owners Club of North Texas gathered at the Convention Center earlier this month to celebrate the opening of the Supercharger station. An estimated 1,700 Tesla owners live in North Texas, including Arlington, according to the North Central Texas Council of Governments.
"We've been waiting for this for a very long time," said Rick Bollar, President of the Tesla Owners Club of North Texas. "It's very cool."
Tesla has a strategically built network of nearly 850 Supercharger stations across the country with more than 5,400 Superchargers. The next closest Supercharger station to Arlington is in Denton.
The Arlington station fills in a critical gap in the 1,200-mile stretch of Interstate 20 from Cisco, Texas to Florence, South Carolina, Bollar said.
"This was the gap. You needed this station right here in Arlington to make that trip possible," Bollar said.
Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams and City Council members Kathryn Wilemon, Lana Wolff and Victoria Farrar-Myers joined Bollar and dozens of other electric car owners at the station celebration. The Supercharger station aligns with the City Council priority to Put Technology to Work.
"We want to be on the cutting edge of transportation," Williams said. "In fact, we are hearing from a lot of automobile manufacturers that there will be more advancement in vehicles in the next five years than there has been in the past 50 years. And that's exciting. The electrification of cars isn't 10 years away. It's here now."
