Wife and detective ask for public's help.

The Arlington Police Department is asking for the public' s help with a two-year-old homicide case that remains unsolved. To encourage people with information to come forward, Oak Farms Dairy has also renewed a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for the fatal shooting of George Hawkins, 52.

On October 26, 2010, Mr. Hawkins was walking his small Shih Tzu dog - Jassmine - in the 2200 block of Elmwood Drive at approximately 8 a.m., when he was shot and killed. Robbery does not appear to have been a motive and no viable witnesses have come forward over the past two years. Homicide detectives have pursued tips and possible leads, but none have led to a suspect. With the passage of time, investigators believe that people with information might feel more comfortable coming forward and encourage them to do so.

On Thursday, November 1, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., Arlington Police Homicide Detective Lisa Wade and Mr. Hawkins' wife, Vatrice Hawkins, will be available to speak about the case, victim and renewed reward information. They will be in the Media Office at the Arlington Police Department main station.

A photo of Mr. Hawkins, a postal employee, is attached to this release.

Anyone with information about Mr. Hawkins' death is encouraged to call Arlington Homicide Detective Lisa Wade at 817-459-5325, or submit an anonymous tip using Crime Stoppers at 817-469-TIPS (8477). Oak Farms Dairy has renewed their offer of a $10,000 reward for information leading the arrest and Grand Jury indictment of the person or persons responsible for Mr. Hawkins death. The reward will be active for six months.
