Council member Mel LeBlanc has notified his colleagues and the City that he has decided to resign from his Council seat effective Tuesday, February 14, 2012, and that he will not run for reelection. Mr. LeBlanc's District 1 seat will remain vacant until voters have elected a new representative in the upcoming May 12, 2012 election.

"This episode has been difficult for all of us. Mel has made a good decision for himself, his family and the city. We wish him the best. The City Council will continue to move forward and to focus on our work for the Arlington community," said Mayor Robert Cluck.

The filing period for the District 1 seat is currently open and will remain open until March 5, 2012. Early voting will take place from April 30, 2012, to May 8, 2012.
