A Kroger grocery store received final approval from the Arlington City Council at the evening session on Tuesday, December 15, 2015.

Kroger Texas LP (Kroger) intends to develop and construct a 123,000 square foot Marketplace store at the northwest corner of U.S. Highway 287 and Sublett Road in 2016, as well as construct Sublett Road into a four lane roadway.

Kroger's Marketplace concept offers a bigger variety of fresh foods, including produce, meats, bakery items and organic foods. The stores also sell clothing and other apparel, small appliances, and other household and convenience items not found in typical Kroger stores.

The Marketplace concept and the proposed location will provide an opportunity to serve this growing area, while providing much needed infrastructure improvements:

  • $20-22.5M capital investment (land, building, and personal property)
  • Estimated $12.6M in annual taxable sales (prepared foods)
  • Estimated $16M taxable value
  • 225-250 new employees

In order to develop the property, Kroger is required to make certain improvements to Sublett Road from the US 287 frontage road to approximately 300 feet from their west property line.

Kroger has agreed to construct the entire four lane roadway with their project, in the amount of $2,665,442. The City's portion of the roadway cost is $2,220,419.
