Grammy Award Winning Composer Michael Daugherty to Perform at UTA

The University of Texas at Arlington will welcome Grammy-Award winning composer Michael Daugherty to campus as the Department of Music's 2015-16 Artist-in-Residence from April 25 to 30.

During that time, Daugherty will teach faculty, staff and student musicians, and premiere one of his own pieces at an orchestra, choir and wind symphony.

Daugherty is one of the most commissioned, performed and recorded composers on the American concert music scene today. He first came to international attention when the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra performed his Metropolis Symphony at Carnegie Hall in 1994. Since that time, Daugherty's music has entered the orchestral, band and chamber music repertory and made him one of the ten most performed living American composers.

The week-long residency including a world-premiere performance of The Diaries of Adam and Eve, a work for violin and double bass, commissioned by the Music Department for Drs. Martha Walvoord and Jack Unzicker as well as festival performances with the Band, Orchestra and Choir. Daugherty will also will work with the Band, the Orchestra and the Choir in rehearsal and Master Class settings, hold Master Classes with the composition students and Colloquiums with all students and faculty.

April 28, 30: UTA Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, 7:30 p.m.

April 29: UTA Wind Symphony, 7:30 p.m.
