Tarrant County Public Health (TCPH) reports that a mosquito pool sample collected in the Town of Pantego has tested positive for West Nile virus. This is the second positive sample in Tarrant County this season. The first positive sample (in Grapevine) was reported on June 27.

Pantego will spray for mosquitoes in the area around 3540 Garner Blvd tomorrow night beginning at 10:00 p.m. Below is a map of the location that outlines the impacted area. Pantego is spraying a quarter-mile radius, but no spraying will occur in the Arlington jurisdiction. The Town of Pantego will also be utilizing the Blackboard Connect system to notify residents by phone and email and will also place the information on the City website.

Residents with questions can contact Pantego Town Hall at 817-274-1381.

TCPH recommends that you take the following steps to help control and stop West Nile:

  • Regularly drain standing water, including water collecting in empty cans, tires, buckets, clogged rain gutters and saucers under potted plants. Mosquitoes that spread WNV can breed in as little as a tablespoon of stagnant water.
  • Use an approved insect repellent. Among the EPA-approved repellents are those that contain DEET, picaridin, IR3535 or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
  • Wear long-sleeve shirts and long pants outdoors at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active.
