Kenneth Roemer, a celebrated UT Arlington English professor, is one of five faculty members who will be inducted this year into the University of Texas System Academy of Distinguished Teachers.

Roemer is an expert in American Indian and Utopian literatures who was honored in 2011 with the UT System Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award and previously has been honored as a UT Arlington Distinguished Scholar Professor and as a Distinguished Teaching Professor.

He is to be recognized during a ceremony in Austin next week for his leadership and commitment to improving teaching and fostering instructional innovation.

UT System Chancellor Francisco G. Cigarroa, M.D., said the Academy honors "the best of the best."

"It recognizes educators, not only those who are leaders in their field, but also those who are committed to improving teaching System-wide," Cigarroa said.

This is the second year that UT System has honored outstanding educators across the nine academic institutions.
