The Arlington Police Department recently hosted an awards ceremony to honor the dedication and extraordinary accomplishments of police employees.

KXAS-TV sports director Newy Scruggs was the emcee at the Feb. 25 celebration held at AT&T Stadium. A deserving group of honorees went above and beyond their job responsibilities during 2014 to serve the citizens of Arlington.

During the celebration, APD paid tribute to a recruiting investigator for her dedication and leadership skills, a detective who tirelessly works cases involving our most helpless victims in the Crimes Against Children Unit, and a rookie officer with the awareness of a more seasoned officer.

The department commended a police reports operator with the ability to calm crime victims while gathering the information necessary to write reports, and an officer who works to keep drunk drivers and dangerous commercial vehicles off the roadway. A sergeant, who has an extensive history of being a strong leader, providing training opportunities to his officers and achieving crime reductions using innovative policing tactics, was recognized as Supervisor of the Year. Community awards were also presented.
