Cheer to Arlington

Arlington will soon see the return of a holiday favorite and one of the largest open-air holiday markets in the Southwest.

Inspired by the traditional Christmas market of Arlington's sister city Bad Königshofen, Germany, the 6thAnnual Texas Christkindl Market will re-open for business this year on Black Friday at Globe Life Park from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Regular shopping hours will resume as follows: Monday - Friday, Noon to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 7 p.m.

Entry and parking is free to all attendees who will find the open-air market full of Christmas shopping, holiday treats, activities and entertainment available and individually priced.

Shows will include local school choirs and dance groups performing traditional American and German holiday carols and traditional German dances. The Dallas String Quartet and UT Arlington Jazz Lab Band will also play on select nights. Residents and visitors can find a complete entertainment schedule on the Texas Christkindl Market website.

This year's market organizers with the Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau have a few new, special events and activities to bring to residents of The American Dream City.

As you might have noticed, this winter has been a particularly hot one, so why not take a ride on the Arctic Blast Tubing Run? New to the market this year, the Arctic Blast Tubing Run is a 200-foot-long track that replicates a tube ride in the snow. Riders must be at least 40 inches tall to participate and under 235 lbs. Tickets for the ride are $3 per ride or $10 for ticket including unlimited rides.

Also new to this years market is Peppermint Park, a new children's attraction featuring carnival games, crafts, puppet shows, and a train ride. Peppermint Park Kinderpasses start at $8 to include one train ticket, puppet show pass, and game tokens. The children's carnival will be open weekends (Friday - Sunday) until December 12, then daily from December 16 until December 23.

Vendors will be in attendance to provide classic German staples like schnitzel and bratwurst, along with Texas State Fair favorites like corn dogs, turkey legs, roasted nuts, funnel cakes and more. Vendor payment methods will vary and ATMs will be available onsite.
