Drivers traveling Interstate 20 in Arlington should expect several closures and planned detours to impact commutes as TxDOT moves forward with Phase III of the Center Street Bridge Project.

According to TxDOT, the delivery and installation of the replacement bridge beam will involve closing of the eastbound frontage road between Matlock Road and Collins Street. This will take place on Friday, July 10, 2015.

The Interstate 20 entrance ramp just east of Matlock Road and the Interstate 20 exit ramp just west of Collins Street will remain open. The eastbound frontage road closure is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. and will reopen by 9:00 p.m.

Also on Friday, July 10, 2015, crews will close the inside eastbound lane on Interstate 20 at 7:00 p.m. Beginning at 9:00 p.m., all Interstate 20 eastbound lanes will be closed between Cooper Street and New York Avenue, with detours heading to the eastbound frontage road.

Due to the increased volume of traffic on the frontage road, the Collins Street and the Matlock Road bridges will be closed to through traffic. All traffic on Matlock Road will be detoured to Cooper Street. All traffic on Collins Street will be detoured to New York Avenue.

After all beams are erected and secured, the contractor will open all lanes of traffic, including the bridges. All lanes will be open by Saturday, July 11, at 6 a.m.

The same lane closures will be repeated on Saturday, July 11, 2015 with the IH-20 eastbound lane closures starting at 9 p.m. and all lanes reopening by Sunday, July 12 at 6 a.m.

TxDOT will install Dynamic Message Sign (DMS) boards on IH-20 and SH-360 to notify the public about the closure. The City has also installed DMS boards along Matlock Road and Collins Street regarding the upcoming closures.

The $10.4-million project includes a new four-lane bridge with sidewalks from the existing Center Street north of I-20 and extending south to Bardin Road. Residents, visitors and businesses should expect improved mobility, safety and connectivity.

The project is estimated for completion in summer 2016.
