Youth Sports

For the third weekend in a row, Arlington was the site for major, youth-sports programming. Athletes from around the region competed in tennis, softball and baseball tournaments. Participants and their families utilized local sports fields, tennis courts, hotels, shops and restaurants during their stay.

The City of Arlington and Parks and Recreation Department and the Arlington Convention and Visitors Bureau partnered with tournament organizers to bring these activities to the city.

USTA South Zone Team Championships

This is the seventh year for Arlington to host the United States Tennis Association South Zone Team Championships at the Arlington Tennis Center. One hundred forty eight athletes traveled from around the country to compete.

IFA-VTD Junior National Championships

The IFA-VTD Softball Junior National Championships were held at Vandergriff Park in Arlington and Grand Prairie. Over 52 teams participated in this annual, girls-fastpitch tournament.

USSSA Baseball World Series

The United States Specialty Sports Baseball World Series had 470 teams in age groups 6U to 18U playing in Arlington and the surrounding cities.

''We are excited to have such a great turnout of teams playing in Arlington and throughout DFW, Tim Campbell, USSSA North Texas State Director, said. ''We had over 10,000 USSSA kids at the Texas Rangers game last night to celebrate the tournament and cheer on the Rangers.''

The baseball tournament was coordinated by a local Arlington business, Tournaments R Us. USSSA tournament information can be found at usssa.com/baseball.

''We are thrilled to welcome USSSA, USTA, IFA-VTD and their outstanding athletes to the city where champions are crowned and dreams come true – Arlington, Texas,'' Matt Wilson, Director of Sports for the Arlington Convention Center Bureau, said. ''May each and every participant have great success on the field and create lasting memories.''
