Next Major Phase

Work will soon begin on one of the final, major phases of the Center Street Bridge project over Interstate 20 in south Arlington.

The Texas Department of Transportation anticipates pouring the bridge decks for the project starting in late August, weather permitting. The work will occur during night-time hours and will necessitate Interstate 20 main lane closures.

The public will be notified about upcoming closures in advance through social media, MyArlingtonTX.com as well as through Dynamic Message Sign (DMS) boards placed along major thoroughfares approaching the construction zone.

'We 're reaching an exciting milestone, ' said Val Lopez, TxDOT 's Fort Worth District Public Information Officer. 'All of the bridge beams are up. '

The City of Arlington contributed $10.4 million to the $11.4 million project a new four-lane bridge with sidewalks that will extend Center Street south of Interstate 20 to Bardin Road. Residents, visitors and businesses should expect improved mobility, safety and connectivity.

The project is estimated for completion in early 2017, Lopez said.

TxDOT appreciates the patience of motorists, and encourages attention to all warning signs within the construction work zone while crews work diligently to complete this project as quickly and as safely as possible. You can see all Texas road conditions by visiting: www.drivetexas.org.
