Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams and City Councilwoman Kathryn Wilemon present singer/songwriter Maren Morris with a proclamation, naming December 27, 2016, as Maren Morris Day in Arlington.

Arlington native Maren Morris has seen many of her dreams come true in 2016.

The 26-year-old country singer/songwriter was named 2016 CMA New Artist of the Year, received four Grammy awards nominations and also recently performed her new songs "My Church" and "80s Mercedes" on Saturday Night Live.

"I moved to Nashville and became a songwriter and I think in the back of my mind I always dreamt that I would be on stage, winning an award or winning a Grammy. For that to happen in reality, it's like your brain can't compute or catch up with it yet," Morris said. "Even though the nominations for the Grammys have been announced and I'm nominated several times, I don't know if it's hit quite yet. It's been such a whirlwind."

With her national tour right around the corner, Morris came back to Arlington for the holidays to visit friends and family. On Tuesday, Mayor Jeff Williams visited Morris at her parents' downtown Arlington salon and presented her with a proclamation on behalf of the City.

"Arlington is very proud of the accomplishments of Maren Morris and predicts an even brighter future for this outstanding and talented singer and songwriter," Williams said.

Morris' The HERO Tour 2017 kicks off Feb. 2, 2017, and includes a stop in Dallas. Morris announced Tuesday that proceeds from meet and greets held after her concerts during the tour would be donated to the fine arts program at Arlington's Bowie High School, where she graduated.
