For no fees at all, residents were able to take home a dog or cat was'spayed or neutered, microchipped, had received rabies vaccinations and core vaccines, 30 days worth of pet health insurance and a city license, said Dianne Tawater, Field Operations Administrator for the Arlington Animal Services Center.

Regina Sobieski, Arlington Animal Services Center Advisory Board member, gave guests tours of the shelter and allowed them to meet and interact with some of the animals. Her aim was to connect the right pet with the right home, and she found success during the day.

'I had the first adoption of the day,'Sobieski said. 'That made me so happy.'
