Fire Station 12

Fire Station 12 at 5050 South Collins Street will temporarily close for renovations starting January 1, 2017.

The closure, which will last at least six months, is not expected to affect response times for the South Arlington station's service area, which is bordered by Interestate 20, Sublett Road, Silo Road and Texas 360.

Fire crews and equipment have been relocated to nearby stations and a strategic plan is in place to ensure the community continues to receive a high level of service delivery, fire officials said. The Arlington Fire Department will monitor the situation closely and make adjustments as needed.

The $1.9 million renovation will add nearly 1,000 square feet of living space and an additional drive-thru bay for the station's vehicles. This will be the station's first major renovation since opening in the 1980s.

"This project will enable the station to accommodate needs for privacy, disabilities, work space and possibly a future aircraft firefighting and rescue vehicle. Building system improvements are also included to save on maintenance and operational costs," Assistant Fire Chief Jim Self said.

Hutcherson Construction, Inc., of Arlington, will serve as the general contractor.
