Clear the Shelters Event (Aug. 15)

Arlington Animal Services Center believes every shelter animal will find its dream home during this year's Clear the Shelters event scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 15. This year, the event has a national presence. NBC 5 and Telemundo 39's parent company, NBCUniversal, which owns stations across the country, expanded the effort to other cities. Currently, more than 300 shelters have signed up to participate. Visit the Arlington Animal Services Center at 1000 SE Green Oaks Blvd. or go to ClearTheShelters.org for a full list of participating shelters and detailed information. Hours may vary among shelters and other fees may apply. We hope to see you there to pick out your rescue pet!

AISD Back to School Kickoff

The inaugural AISD Back to School Kickoff arrives at AT&T Stadium this Saturday, August 15. The event will help thousands of Arlington ISD students and their families get the supplies and resources they need to be ready for the 2015-2016 academic year. At the AISD Back to School Kickoff, which will be held from 8:00 a.m. to noon on the west outdoor plaza and indoor platform of AT&T Stadium, pre-registered students will receive a backpack filled with school supplies appropriate to their grade level, as well as the opportunity to visit a variety of resource booths. Booths will include an immunization station, vision checks, eyeglasses fittings, information on after-school care programs and more. Pre-register a student by clicking here.

Arlington Museum of Art Presents Toulouse-Lautrec and La Vie Moderne: Paris 1880-1910

Art lovers have one last chance to check out a popular exhibit at Arlington Museum of Art in Downtown this weekend! The exhibit, which has experienced record crowds at the museum, contains almost 200 pieces from avant-garde Post-Impressionist artists working in a new French "modern" style. Built around the work of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, painter of scenes and artists from the famed Paris theatre the Moulin Rouge, this expansive exhibit will explore the anti-establishment movement among artists seeking alternative means to bring their art to a broad public and break out of the traditional molds. The exhibit is open to the public until Sunday, August 16, 2015.

Grease Monkey Burger Shop Presents Devin Leigh

Downtown Arlington is the place to be for music lovers this Friday night at Grease Monkey Burger Shop on N. Mesquite Street! Devin Leigh will be performing from 8:30-11 p.m. His solo work is a mixture of rockabilly, country, blues, and southern rock, infused with fiery guitar. Devin's acoustic show is more of a one man band, including acousitc guitar, slide guitar, harmonica, and percussion. Star Wars Weekend at Globe Life Park in Arlington

Your Texas Rangers take on the Tampa Bay Rays this weekend, in a series full of great Star Wars promotions! Friday night's game at 7:05 p.m. features pregame appearances by Star Wars characters on the concourse, as well as a Star Wars Post-Game Fireworks Show. On Saturday, first pitch is also 7:05 p.m. That game will feature four different Rangers-themed Star Wars shirts that will be randomly distributed to the first 10,000 fans ages 14 & older. There will also be pregame appearances by Star Wars characters on the concourse. And then for Sunday's game at 2:05 p.m. the first 15,000 fans will get a Adrian Beltre Bobblehead. It should be a fun weekend at the ballpark! Go Rangers!

Theatre Arlington Presents "Mama Won't Fly"

A new show opened last weekend at Theatre Arlington in downtown for you and your family to enjoy! "Mama Won't Fly" is described as a hilarious race against the clock that begins when Savannah agrees to get her feisty mother from Alabama to California in time for her brother's wedding. Savannah's problem: Mama won't fly. With only four days to get there, this determined daughter has no choice but to drive cross-country in Mama's vintage Buick. The show runs until Sunday, August 23. Thursday performances begin at 7:30 pm; Friday & Saturday at 8:00 pm; Sunday at 2:00 pm. Regular adult admission: $22. Discount for Seniors (62+) and full time Students: $20.

Arlington CVB Segway Tours

The Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau has partnered up with Segway Fort Worth to offer Arlington visitors and residents two ultimate treks around some of The American Dream City's most popular attractions! Glide with a group around Globe Life Park in Arlington, past Richard Greene Linear Park and Robert Cluck Linear Park and right by AT&T Stadium or book an exclusive tour inside the ballpark. Tours are available by appointment only. Call 817-631-3273 to book your segway fun! You can also stop by the Visitor Welcome Center (corner of Randol Mill & Ballpark) to check out routes. Arlington Segway Tours are available Thursday-Sunday at 9 am, 11 am, 4 pm and 6 pm.
