Another project has been completed this summer to enhance the visual aesthetics within the city. Over the last few months, drought-tolerant Texas landscapes were installed on Northeast Green Oaks Blvd and East Sublett Road corridors.
In 2015, the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation provided a $250,000 grant to conduct the pilot project in accordance with a City Council goal to improve the aesthetics of major thoroughfares. The grant provided funding for the purchase and installation of plant material, irrigation, and ongoing maintenance for three years. A mixture of trees, shrubs, and ornamental grasses have been placed to soften the appearance of privacy fences, utility boxes, and other street infrastructure.
This project adds to an ongoing initiative called "Green the Oaks."Green the Oaks was started in 2008 to increase the number of street trees along the 22 mile Green Oaks Blvd corridor. Most recent planting was SW Green Oaks Blvd from Bowen Road to Kelly Elliott Road.
