The Arlington ISD will forego the traditional beginning of the year convocation event and instead celebrate its teachers and their commitment to students with the AISD Day of Service from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 20.

Non-campus employees for the district, which includes those working in finance, curriculum, human resources, educational support services and more, will help teachers and campus staff with anything from classroom set up and distributing textbooks to laminating and creating bulletin boards during the Day of Service.

With the progress of the Bond 2014 program, which includes opening two new fine arts/dual language academies, consolidating four junior high schools into two and moving the Newcomer Center and Venture High School to a different campus, as well as the opening of the new Diane Patrick Elementary and the STEM Academy at Martin High School, AISD teachers and staff are working hard to get their classrooms and campuses ready for the start of school on Aug. 24.

"We know that the start of a new school year is a busy time for teachers and staff, and we hope the classroom assistance provided through the AISD Day of Service provides support," AISD Superintendent Dr. Marcelo Cavazos said. "We are excited to see our employees learn more about each other, connect and come together for the betterment of our students."
