Please join us for the first Building a Dream gala to support the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library, which is scheduled to open to the public in the summer of 2018.

The first Building a Dream will benefit the Friends & Foundation's DREAM: Central - Building the Library of Tomorrow campaign. Funds raised through this campaign will provide furniture, fixtures, equipment, and technology for a new, state-of-the-art Downtown Library, where people of Arlington will go to achieve their dreams! This year the event will take place on Saturday, March 25 at the Arlington Museum of Art from 7 to 10 p.m. Lifelong Texan and prolific author Sandra Brown will be the first featured guest.

Brown has been a major literary force in Texas since she began publishing in the 1980s. She's written more than 80 books, most of which have topped the New York Times bestseller lists. Her novels are often described as romantic thrillers, even though they easily move between genres. She has been given top awards by both the International Thriller Writer's Association and Romance Writers of America. She also received the Texas Medal of Arts Award for Literature and an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from TCU.

Sandra Brown has loved books and reading since childhood and is excited to teach future generations "the fun to be found in reading and books!"

The Building a Dream gala is a special opportunity to spend time with Ms. Brown while supporting the Arlington Public Library and its literacy programs for all ages. Building a Dream will also feature Arlington's Director of Libraries Yoko Matsumoto, who will present plans for the new building.

The event includes heavy hors d'oeuvres, drinks and a silent auction. Tickets are $100 each and will be sold online beginning February 11. Building a Dream is sponsored by Tarrant County College, Southwest Bank, Downtown Arlington, and Frost Bank.

In subsequent years, the gala will continue to benefit the programs and services offered through the new Downtown Library.
