Weekend Buzz: 10 Events in The American Dream City for Nov. 9-11, 2018

1. Arlington Heroes Run

The Arlington Heroes Run hosted by the Rotary Club of Arlington will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018 at Veterans Park, 3600 W. Arkansas Ln. The 5K race and fun run will benefit the Arlington police, fire, and veterans. The fun run will begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 5K at 9 a.m.

2. Arlington Heroes Parade

The 2nd annual Arlington Heroes Parade is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, in Downtown Arlington. The mission of the parade is to raise awareness to the organizations and services available to our heroes.

3. Live Music at Texas Live!

Check out live music this weekend at Texas Live!, the new $250 million world-class dining, entertainment and hospitality district located near the Rangers" Globe Life Park and Cowboys" AT&T Stadium in The American Dream City. Arlington Backyard, a 5,000-capacity outdoor event pavilion, is expected to host more than 250 events annually. Several bands will perform throughout the weekend, including Casey Donahew on Saturday, November 10 at the Arlington Backyard. The College Game Day Watch Party kicks off on Saturday at 11 a.m. in front of a Texas-Sized Television and the Cowboys Watch Party starts at 5 p.m. on Sunday. 4. UTA Homecoming Celebration

Homecoming is all about traditions that bring alumni, students and community members flooding back to Maverick Country to honor the past and get excited for the future. The Movin" Mavs and Lady Movin" Mavs Homecoming Wheelchair Basketball tournament has games throughout the weekend. Military Appreciation Night starts at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, in the College Park Center Hospitality Suite. It precedes the 6:30 p.m. Maverick volleyball game against Texas State University.

On Saturday, Nov. 10, students and alumni can celebrate with Maverick pride activities all day:

  • The Homecoming Golf tournament is a four-person scramble at Waterchase Golf Club, where alumni, friends, faculty, staff and students tee off at 8 a.m.
  • The annual Homecoming 5K Walk/Run/Roll begins at 10 a.m. and will wind through campus with participants raising money for UTA"s Emergency Assistance Fund.
  • The UTA women"s basketball team takes on Jackson State at 2:30 p.m. at College Park Center.
  • The annual street festival begins at 3 p.m. on Spaniolo Drive.
  • The annual UTA Homecoming Parade steps off at 5:15 p.m. and culminates with a pep rally in front of College Park Center.
  • The men"s basketball game starts at 7 p.m. against Northern Iowa in College Park Center. The Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned at halftime.

5. Coffee & Crafting

Get crafty with Dottie Lynn Recreation Center this Saturday, November 10 as they make Everything Tassels! Coffee & Crafting is from 9:15-11:00 AM. Coffee/Tea and craft supplies are included in the cost of the class. Registration is required and is $15 per person. Please register online or call Dottie Lynn Recreation Center at 817-277-5001. 6. Don McLean at Arlington Music Hall

Don McLean is one of America"s most enduring singer-songwriters and forever associated with his classic hits "American Pie", "Vincent (Starry Starry Night)", "Castles in the Air", "And I Love You So" and "Crying". Since first hitting the charts in 1971, he has amassed over 40 gold and platinum records world-wide and, in 2004, was inducted into the Songwriters" Hall of Fame. McLean will perform this Friday, Nov. 9 at Arlington Music Hall in Downtown at 7:30 p.m. Residents and visitors can purchase tickets online or call the box office at 817-226-4400.

7. Free Feral Cat Sunday for Arlington Feral/Community Cats!

The City of Arlington in partnership with Best Friends Animal Society is offering a free spay/neuter clinic for Arlington Feral and Community Cats in all Arlington ZIP codes. Cat drop off is 8 to 9 a.m., with return for pickup at 4 p.m. every Sunday through November 18, 2018 at the Arlington Animal Services Center. This offer is good to the first 20 Arlington Feral/Community Cats to arrive between 8-9 a.m. Feral Cats must be in a trap. Kittens must be at least three (3) months old. 8. Live Music at Grease Monkey Burger Shop & Social Club

Head over to Grease Monkey Burger Shop & Social Club in Downtown Arlington for live music this weekend. On Friday, November 9, enjoy Rocky Lott at 9 p.m. Devin Leigh will perform on Saturday, November 10 at 9 p.m. His solo work is a mixture of rockabilly, country, blues, and southern rock, infused with fiery guitar. Grease Monkey is located at 200 N Mesquite St, Arlington, TX 76011.

9. Live Music at J.R. Bentley"s

Check out live music with Davis & Rose this Friday, November 9, 2018 at J.R. Bentley"s in Downtown Arlington. The show starts at 8 p.m. On Saturday, enjoy live music with Don McRay at 8 p.m. Situated in a historic home, J.R. Bentley"s has the feel of an authentic English pub and features several local and area bands throughout the year. The venue is located at 406 W Abram St, Arlington, TX 76010. You can find a complete calendar of events at www.jrbentleys.com. Regular hours of operation are Monday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. and Sunday from 5 p.m. to midnight.

10. Shows at UTA Planetarium

UTA Planetarium continues to offer shows to residents and visitors. This includes Spacepark 360: Infinity, a planetarium show designed to recreate the experience of amusement park thrill rides, roller coasters, pendulums, inverters and more.
