Did you know, in 1876, the Pacific Railway Company established a stop mid way between Dallas and Fort Worth and the town was named Hayterville in honor of the Rev. Andrew Shannon Hayter who was instrumental in directing the railroad company through the most peaceful route? Because his name was often mispronounced, the Rev. Hayter preferred to name the town Arlington in honor of General Robert E. Lee's home in Virginia.

In 2006, Arlington celebrated its 135th birthday.
