Day Of ServiceMy name is Toni Kincaid. It's my privilege to serve as committee member of the Arlington Martin Luther King (MLK) Four Day Celebration Committee, Inc. and as Chair of the Arlington MLK Day of Service, which includes a festival this year.

MLK Day Of Service Photo 02The Arlington MLK Day of Service will take place on Monday, January 18, 2016. We are planning to involve hundreds of volunteers in making a difference in the City of Arlington on this national holiday. This letter is a request for you or your organization's\group's participation in this endeavor. The best way to honor Dr. King is through service and volunteering in our communities. Dr. King devoted his life to advancing equality, social justice, and economic opportunity for all. He challenged us to build a more perfect union and taught us that everyone has a role to play. Four decades later, we still have work to do to realize Dr. King's dream. The needs are great, many Americans are hurting, and government can't do it alone. We need citizens to help renew our nation and community, and expand equality and opportunity for all.

Also, this letter is to ask if you know of any needs within the city of Arlington the volunteers on the Day of Service can fulfill.

MLK Day Of Service Photo 03Last year we had over 350 volunteers! This year our goal is to get at least 500 volunteers to serve throughout our community. There will be various tasks assigned throughout the community. Each volunteer will be asked to serve at least two hours. On the day of service all volunteers will meet at (please note new location) Arlington City Hall, 101 W. Abram Street, at 9:00 am for their assignments and light refreshments. The first 150 volunteers will receive a MLK T-Shirt commemorating the 2016 Arlington MLK Celebration.

Individual volunteers & volunteer groups can sign up on our website, www.ArlingtonMLK.com. If you are signing up volunteers or groups of volunteers (and not utilizing the website), please send me their names by Wednesday, January 13, 2016. My email address is [email protected].
