The Citizens Police Academy is a free community program that gives Arlington residents a unique, behind the scenes look at how their police department operates.

The 11-week course meets every Monday from 7:00pm - 10:00pm. Classes are taught by APD officers who have expertise in the topics covered, including:  

  • Community Policing
  • 911 Communications
  • SWAT
  • Traffic Enforcement/Radar
  • Gang Unit
  • Jail Operations
  • Critical Incident
  • Procedural Justice
  • Auto Theft
  • Use of Force/Defensive Tactics
  • Accident Investigation
  • K-9
  • Economic Crimes
  • Drug Interdiction
  • Homicide Investigations
  • Active Shooter/Building Searches
  • Traffic Stops
  • Human Trafficking
  • Crime Scene
  • Death Messages

Graduates of the CPA are also invited to join the Arlington Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association and continue their involvement as police volunteers.  The Alumni Association meets monthly.
