The City of Arlington Health Division ensures that all food establishments such as restaurants, child care kitchens, convenience stores and grocery stores are inspected at least once annually. Inspections are conducted based on criterion in the Texas Food Establishment Rules (TFER) and the City of Arlington Health and Sanitation Ordinance Article IV. Beginning in August 2017, the Arlington Health Division implemented the most current version of TFER which included an updated inspection form and scoring system.
Inspections scores reflect the updated scoring system in which 100 is a perfect score and 70 is considered to be extremely poor.
A scored reinspection will be conducted for establishments that score 75 or less. Establishments that have a score of 76 or better but have critical violations may receive an unscored follow-up inspection to ensure that the critical violations have been corrected.
Establishments presenting serious health and sanitation violations that are considered to be an imminent health hazard will be closed upon the authority of the City of Arlington Health Division until the identified health hazard has been mitigated.
Change of Ownership and Complaint Inspections do not result in a score.

Plan Review
All new or remodeled food establishments are required to submit plans to be reviewed for compliance with health code regulations. As a part of this process, construction or structural design inspections are performed. All facilities must go through this process before a health permit to operate can be issued. In addition to the health permit, a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) is also required to be approved and issued prior to opening for business. The CO can be obtained through Planning and Development Services, which is located on the 2nd floor of City Hall at 101 W. Abram St., phone 817-459-6502.
Should you require additional information, please contact Aimee Rockhill-Carpenter, RS, Health Services Manager, by email or at 817-459-6656.
