How It Works

To ensure pick-up, recyclables must be placed at the curb no later than 7 a.m. on your collection day and not before 7 p.m. the evening prior to the day of scheduled collection. Carts should be stored out of sight during non-service days.

Where do Arlington’s Recyclables Go?

Despite the challenges of today’s recycling markets, Arlington still recycles all of its clean materials. Once these valuable recyclables have been sorted at the Republic Services Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), they are sold to end users where these items receive a second life. Many of these end users are local or domestic. For instance, recycled aluminum from Arlington has gone to Constellium, metals have gone to DFW Recyclers, and mixed paper and cardboard has gone to the Packaging Corporation of America.

Unfortunately, much of what is disposed of in recycling bins is not recyclable. Republic Services must sort out this trash and dispose of it, at a cost to the city. The success of any recycling program depends on delivering high quality recyclables to end users.  The best way to ensure your recyclables are of good quality is to stick to the label on your recycling cart lid or on the city's recycling webpage and to keep food and drink containers empty, clean and dry.

Acceptable Materials

Our curbside recycling program success depends on our ability to keep contaminants such as food, textiles, hazardous materials and other non-recyclables out of our recycle carts. Please make sure to remove food residue from all containers and rinse out jugs and cartons. Recyclables should not be bagged. Remember, if the item is not pictured, it is not accepted in our curbside program. If you are unsure whether an item is accepted, feel free to email us at recycling@arlingtontx.gov
