Water Hose
Safety
You might be thinking of using
your water hose to spray for bugs or fill your pool, but did you know
that you may be doing something that could be hazardous?
By using your water hose
to spray insecticide on the lawn, wash the car, or spray flowers with
bug spray, you may unintentionally create a hazardous situation!
Any time your water hose
is connected to a potentially harmful substance, that substance could
end up in your drinking water. There are several things you can
do to prevent this from happening:
-
Purchase an
inexpensive and easy to install backflow prevention device for all
threaded faucets located outside your home. These devices are
called "hose bib vacuum breakers" and are available for purchase at most hardware or plumbing supply stores.
-
Make sure the end of
your water hose is always kept clear and open. Do not leave
the end of the water hose inside a pool, bucket, or puddle!
-
Do not leave a
running water hose unattended.
