It’s 6:30 p.m. on a Wednesday
evening. A minivan transporting six Arlington Independent School
District employees pulls into the well-lit Park Springs Park and Ride
Lot near Interstate 20. They have just returned from a meeting in
Dallas and use this lot as a regular meeting place to park their
vehicles and vanpool.
"We watched this facility
being built," said AISD education diagnostician Diane Goodman.
"It is adjacent to the highway and is a safer, more central
meeting place."
Arlington’s Park and Ride Lot program encourages van and
carpooling. The Fort Worth Transit Authority, known locally as The T,
operates a free commuter match service. Call their Park and Ride
information line at 817-336-RIDE. Phone operators will gather
information and load it into a database to match commuter groups. DART
operates vanpool and carpool services through its Ride Match program.
