TRAFFIC LIGHTS

Our Field Operations Division maintains over 320 traffic signals and 150 school flashers within the city.  In order to maintain, repair and replace our signal and flasher facilities according to strict Federal and State rules and regulations, we maintain a thoroughly trained and certified in-house maintenance team of technicians and helpers.  As the City grows and enhances its transportation network, the demand for new signalized intersections increases; so each year we add about five signalized intersections to our inventory.  Our maintenance, repairs and replacement process strives for the most effective means and sequence of repairs, maintenance, and innovative technologies, all the while making the best use of taxpayer dollars.  In 2004, Arlington replaced all of our incandescent signal light bulbs with the new Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs).  This energy savings effort  saves the City 85% of our ongoing signal electrical usage on an annual basis.
